Little Burra Community Association

Little Burra is located inside the Molonglo catchment, bordering Royalla Estate. It is not registered as a Landcare group, rather it is part of a Land Management Committee. It currently has 5 core members, which varies to 10-11 maximum and focuses work on community land.

Activity:

Although 2007 was quite an active year, monthly working bees did not occur in 2008. Intermittent gatherings continued work along a tributary to Jerrabomberra Creek, which focuses on revegetation to address erosion problems. This project has been funded by a Molonglo Catchment Group grant, with 700 to 1000 trees planted already. Greening Australia will be involved with direct seeding on the site for 2009 with leftover funds. 500 plants to date have also come from Queanbeyan City Council and Queanbeyan Landcare Group.

Planting out local roundabouts has also, been a project the group has worked on, improving the aesthetics of the area.

In 2009, planning is under way to slash, spray and direct seed a further area along the tributary. This will extend the wildlife corridor.

Issues:

No real issues hot at hand for the group at present. Most problematic weeds include:

  • Thistles
  • St Johns Wort/li>
  • Patterson's curse

Opportunities:

Group will give feedback as to the training needs it requires. A seed collection workshop in 2007 was well received.
