Monaro landscape connectivity

Having received some good interest from people at the workshop in Bungendore on 1 December, particularly from around Carwoola - Captain's Flat - Hoskinstown, the project team is now planning to hold the first MLC workshop in this area.

The details for the workshop are not yet finalised, but at this stage expect a 1-day workshop in the Captains Flat valley (ideally on the property of an interested landholder) in late April or early May. The workshop will help land managers to get a better understanding of native vegetation on their property, and also to look at managing it in the context of its connectivity to surrounding patches, through aerial photos and maps (which we will provide for all attendees) of native vegetation types across the landscape around their individual properties. There will also be sessions on Indigenous land management principles, and how people can begin to apply these on their property, if they are interested.

Launch of the Molonglo River Rescue Action Plan

The Molonglo River Rescue Action Plan details how to rehabilitate the Molonglo River - from Captains Flat in NSW right through to its confluence with the Murrumbidgee in north-western ACT. The Plan will officially be launched with the help of year 2 students from Ainslie Primary School at Molonglo Reach opposite Duntroon, ACT. Hard copies of the Plan will be available on the day or can be collected from the Molonglo Catchment Group office in Queanbeyan.

World Environment Day 2010 - Walk, Talk & Tea

Celebrate World Environment Day with a walk and learn how the Mount Ainslie Weeders, the Friends of Mount Majura, and the Watson Woodland Group are enhancing the bush environment in three separate areas. Enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and listen to an informative presentation from Dr. Phil Gibbons of the ANU Fenner School of the Environment, who will talk about habitat trees in the area.

Meet at 1pm and choose between the following walks:

MGCMN field day - managing weeds in native grasslands

Ever wondered how to selectively remove perennial weeds from among the rich diversity of a complex native grassland ?

This field day, organised by the Monaro Grassland Conservation Management Network, will allow exploration and discussion of the variety of methods and concepts involved in understanding how to manipulate grassland composition to favour native plants over weed species.

Canberra 100 planting day – a date for your diary

On 12 March 2013, Canberra will celebrate 100 years since its naming as the National Capital of Australia. The vast areas of bushland in the ACT are one of the aspects that this celebration will highlight. As a lead up event, Greening Australia will be running some planting days in the Lower Cotter. This is the first of these event and we hope to attract all our volunteers, families and friends for a huge day of planting.

Molonglo River Rescue Action Plan Launch

The Molonglo River Rescue Action Plan will be offically launched in May 2010 (exact date TBA). The Action Plan details actions required to rehabilitate the Molonglo River from its headwaters in Tallaganda National Park, down to its confluence with the Murrumbidgee River north-west of Canberra. The Action Plan was created through a Caring for our Country Grant and aims to facilitate on-ground works to restore this iconic water course.
